Yoshiya Yamaoka (Yamaoka Design Studio)

In order to preserve and revitalize this “oldest storehouse with earthen walls within the town limits of old Edo,” we incorporated it into a housing complex project to utilize it as a “living heritage,” resulting in an experiment that ties this historical building to the next generation. We learned about materials, details and construction methods used in the Edo period by dismantling the building, restored it anew using traditional means of construction, and applied modern durable materials and construction methods to partially reproduce it.
