This is the town hall of Tsubestu, a town of forests. As a method to maximize and effectively utilize wood from the town, a “nested mixed structure” was adopted, with the building’s perimeter surrounded by sturdy concrete and the center part an open wooden space. The architecture was designed with simple details and construction methods from the structure to the finish, and was made to be reproducible with local technology. By working closely with local industries, the aim was to elevate the design to an expression unique to this area.
