Manabu Chiba (CHIBA MANABU ARCHITECTS)

This house, built to take care of my elderly father, is both his and my home. The father and son relationship, in which we are always aware of one another’s presence; the consideration to keep the height of the house as low as possible, as to not cast a shadow on the neighbors, who always show tenderness and care for my father; the original wooden gable roofs that once lined the townscape; the bookshelves that archived my father’s work; and the desk that supports my creative work. This house, where all these elements are intertwined in one spacious room, comfortably embodies the original purpose of a home, a place where family members look out for each other.
