Hironaka Ogawa (Hironaka Ogawa & Associates)

This guest house stands on a large flagpole lot. As there are no good views around the site, we planned a house with a courtyard. All the rooms have courtyards adjacent to them, creating an open space while still maintaining privacy. The wall beams above the courtyard control the line of sight, obliterating the presence of neighboring buildings, letting in light and giving the space shadows. The floating wall beams, which may seem intrusive at first glance, transform the indoor and outdoor environments, creating a variety of spaces.
