Located on a 1,000 sqm site in the Tokyo suburbs, this residence engages a transitional zone between urban density and natural surroundings. While more spacious than central city lots, the context still demands a sensitivity to its environment. Five private room cores were carefully positioned through repeated design iterations—revising plans and re-marking the layout on site. Gardens were inserted between these volumes to mediate between openness and intimacy. The resulting composition redefines the relationship between interior and exterior, architecture and environment.
