Tsuyoshi Nakamoto (STUDIO YY)

The Boathouse was built as a competition facility for the canoe events of the 2030 Shimane National Sports Festival. Misato Town, home to about 4,000 residents, has a long-standing canoeing culture and maintains a friendship agreement with Mas Village in Bali, Indonesia. Inspired by the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—the harmony between people, nature, and the divine—the design features a roof form symbolizing the jukung, a traditional Balinese boat, and makes use of natural materials. In addition to supporting junior and senior high school club activities, the boathouse is also envisioned as a new tourism resource for the region.
