The concept of this plan was “a school where connections are born between students, teachers, and local residents who ’do each other,’” and the plan was designed with the intention of creating a place where children can develop their “power to live” by being aware of and enhancing each other’s activities. The city actively used school books in lessons, and interpreted the context in which children were familiar with books in their daily lives, and planned “Komakiyama Steps,” which has an open library at the center of a simple three-building structure.
