YU Momoeda (YU Momoeda Architects)

Sauna facility planned on the shores of Lake Yamanaka. We aimed to integrate the architecture into the local landscape, connecting it with the region’s historical context while adhering to the exterior constraints based on the “Natural Parks Law” to preserve the beautiful natural environment. With a focus on Mount Fuji and cap clouds (kasagumo), we designed a roof floating above a mountain-like structure, creating spaces with contrasting features of concentration and liberation between “inside the mountain” and “outside the mountain.” Visitors can concentrate inwardly to calm their minds on the ground floor, representing “inside the mountain,” and experience mental liberation while facing the beautiful natural landscape on the first floor, representing “outside the mountain.”
